KeralaCompass.in is a neutral, non-partisan, educational digital platform that helps first time voters in Kerala explore India's democratic system - with a special focus on Kerala's three major political fronts (LDF, UDF, NDA), their constituent parties as of 2026, and their publicly available manifestos.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the operator of KeralaCompass.in. By accessing or using the Platform (website, PWA, or any associated service), you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

1 Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of India to use the Platform. By using it, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement.

The Platform is strictly for adult voters. We do not knowingly permit users under 18.

2 Description of the Service

The Platform provides:

  • explore A neutral Political Compass quiz and results based solely on your self-reported values.
  • menu_book Educational content on India's political system, Kerala's political fronts, parties, and manifestos (summarised from public sources).
  • how_to_vote Optional Voter Pledge, volunteer registration, invite system, and anonymous leaderboards.
  • notifications Reminders for civic participation (only if you opt-in).
  • ads_click Contextual and interest-based advertisements (with your consent) to sustain the Platform's free availability, including ECI pre-certified political advertisements where applicable.

The Platform is strictly educational and non-partisan. We do not endorse, support, or oppose any political front, party, candidate, or ideology. Quiz results are statistical matches only and do not constitute voting advice. The presence of political advertisements does not imply endorsement of the advertiser by KeralaCompass.

3 User Accounts and Registration

You may register using phone number and/or email (OTP-based). You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activities under it. You agree to provide accurate information and update it promptly.

4 Voter Pledge and Volunteer Features

how_to_reg The Voter Pledge is a voluntary personal commitment. By taking it, you affirm your intent to vote and encourage others.
leaderboard Leaderboards are anonymous and based on verifiable participation metrics.
report Abuse of the invite system (fake referrals, spam) will result in immediate termination.

5 User Content and Conduct

You retain ownership of any content you upload (e.g., pledge signature). By submitting content, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it for operating the Platform.

You agree not to:

  • close Post or transmit any content that is defamatory, hateful, or violates any law (including the Representation of the People Act, 1951).
  • close Misuse the Platform to influence votes, spread misinformation, or engage in unsanctioned political campaigning.
  • close Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the quiz or scoring logic.
  • close Use the Platform to promote your own commercial products, services, or interests without prior written consent from KeralaCompass. This prohibition applies to user-initiated commercial activity and does not restrict KeralaCompass from displaying third-party advertisements as part of its own platform monetisation, as described in Section 6.

We reserve the right to remove any content and terminate accounts that violate these rules.

6 Advertising and Sponsored Content

KeralaCompass may display advertisements and sponsored content on the Platform to fund its continued free operation. By using the Platform, you acknowledge and accept that advertisements may appear alongside editorial content.

  • Advertisements are served in compliance with the DPDP Act, 2023 (consent and purpose limitation), the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (prohibition on misleading advertisements), and the ASCI Code of self-regulation.
  • Political advertisements additionally comply with the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and all applicable Election Commission of India (ECI) directions on digital advertising, including pre-certification requirements.
  • Advertising does not alter the neutrality or educational content of the Platform. All paid placements are visually distinguished from editorial content with a clear "Ad" or "Sponsored" label.

how_to_vote Political Advertising Conditions

  • Only registered Indian political parties or candidates with a valid MCMC pre-certification may place political advertisements on the Platform.
  • All political advertisements are clearly labelled "Paid Political Advertisement" with the name of the paying party or candidate.
  • No political advertising is served during ECI-mandated blackout periods or within 48 hours before polling day in any applicable constituency.
  • Political advertisers are solely responsible for the accuracy, legality, and compliance of their advertisement content. KeralaCompass is not a co-publisher or political agent of any advertiser.

tune User Advertising Rights

  • Interest-based advertising is opt-in only. You may manage your advertising preferences at any time in Settings → Privacy Controls.
  • KeralaCompass does not endorse any advertiser or their products, services, or political positions.
  • Third-party advertisers are responsible for their own compliance with applicable laws. KeralaCompass shall not be liable for any advertiser's representations, omissions, or the quality of advertised goods or services.

7 Intellectual Property

All content on the Platform - quiz logic, educational articles, design, and code - is released under copyleft. No rights reserved. You are free to share, adapt, and build upon this work, provided any derivative work is released under the same terms.

8 Disclaimers & No Warranties

The Platform and all content are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without any warranties of any kind (express or implied).

We do not warrant that:

  • close Manifesto summaries or analyses are exhaustive or error-free (they are based on public sources as of 2026).
  • close Quiz results will perfectly reflect any political front.
  • close Use of the Platform will guarantee increased voter turnout or any specific outcome.

You alone are responsible for your voting decisions. KeralaCompass is not affiliated with the Election Commission of India, any political front, party, or government body.

9 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law, KeralaCompass and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages (including loss of profits, data, or goodwill) arising out of or in connection with your use of the Platform, even if advised of the possibility.

Maximum Liability Cap

Our total liability shall not exceed ₹1,000 (Indian Rupees One Thousand) in any case.

10 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless KeralaCompass, its operators, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms or any law.

11 Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, for any reason (including violation of these Terms). Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately.

Sections 7-10 survive termination and continue to apply after your account is closed.

12 Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The new Effective Date will appear at the top. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. We will notify registered users via email/SMS where feasible.

13 Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Ernakulam, Kerala. You irrevocably submit to the jurisdiction of these courts.

14 Severability & Waiver

15 Grievance Redressal (IT Rules, 2021 & DPDP Act)

We have appointed a Grievance Officer for complaints regarding content, accounts, advertising, or these Terms (response within 30 days as per applicable law).

16 Newsletter Subscription

By registering with an email address and completing OTP verification, you agree — unless you opt out at the point of registration — to receive KeralaCompass newsletters. The newsletter covers:

  • Kerala election news and analysis
  • Manifesto and policy comparisons
  • KeralaCompass platform updates
  • Civic education content

Frequency: Newsletters are sent only when there is meaningful content to share — typically a few times per election cycle. We do not send daily or weekly emails.

Opt-out: You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email, or by contacting [email protected]. Unsubscribes are processed immediately and are permanent.

17 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and KeralaCompass.
